Why Grass-fed Beef?

At Etta Hills Farm, we are passionate about producing beef that’s not only delicious and nutrient-dense but also regenerates the land and ecosystem it comes from. Every piece of beef from our farm is 100% grass-fed, pasture-raised, and GMO-free, raised in harmony with nature.

What Makes Grass-Fed Beef Superior?

Grass-fed beef is fundamentally different from the cheaper, grain-fed beef found in supermarkets. The latter, often raised in industrial operations, relies on unsustainable practices that degrade the environment and produce lower-quality meat. By contrast, grass-fed beef offers significant health benefits, is kinder to the environment, and contributes to the restoration of natural ecosystems.

What Is a CAFO?

CAFO stands for Concentrated Animal Feeding Operation, which accounts for 99% of all beef sold in America. These operations confine animals in small spaces, where they are fed a diet of GMO and pesticide-laden grains. Denied access to pasture and natural behavior, CAFO cattle require heavy doses of antibiotics to fend off infections that spread in such confined, unnatural conditions. CAFOs are major contributors to soil degradation, water contamination, and greenhouse gas emissions.

The Regenerative Difference at Etta Hills Farm

At Etta Hills Farm, our cattle are part of a system designed to heal and enrich the land. Through Intensive Rotational Grazing, or "mob grazing," our cattle mimic the natural grazing patterns of wildlife on a prairie. They move to fresh paddocks as often as twice a day, ensuring:

  • Pasture Health: Their grazing promotes diverse plant growth and prevents overgrazing.

  • Natural Fertilization: Manure naturally fertilizes the soil, reducing the need for synthetic inputs.

  • Microbial Activity: Their movement stimulates soil microbes, enhancing soil structure and nutrient cycling.

  • Carbon Sequestration: Healthy, vibrant pastures pull carbon from the atmosphere and store it in the soil.

Our cattle thrive in a diverse and nutrient-rich environment, allowing them to meet their health needs naturally, free from antibiotics or synthetic additives.

The Nutritional Advantage of Grass-Fed Beef

Research led by Dr. Allen Williams, a leading expert in regenerative agriculture and Etta Hills Farm partner, has shown that grass-fed beef is significantly higher in:

  • Favorable fatty acids like omega-3s.

  • Essential phytonutrients found in diverse forages.

  • Key vitamins and minerals that support human health.
